Don Goodman shares what worried him about West Brom win v QPR
Don Goodman praised West Brom for the manner of their win against QPR, but says a look at the substitutes’ bench highlights the need for more signings.
Albion lifted some of the gloom that has engulfed the club during the summer transfer window by winning 3-1 at Loftus Road on Saturday (10 August) in a game they trailed in.
While that win provided hope for the season ahead, Goodman believes Carlos Corberan will be eager to add as many as five more new players to his squad.
“They got off to a brilliant start at QPR,” he told West Brom News. “What was so impressive is that they didn’t panic when going behind and that win is a massive, massive boost for that group of players.
“But there’s no doubt about it – when you look at the bench against QPR, there’s a whole lot of youngsters.
“I think Carlos Corberan has openly acknowledged that he’d like more bodies in the building – perhaps as many as five.”
West Brom need new signings ASAP
Winning breeds confidence, so they say, and never was that more true than the win in West London last weekend.
While that may have been followed up with defeat to Fleetwood Town in the Carabao Cup, Corberan’s selection says it all about that competition.
Albion, despite the sales of Conor Townsend, Brandon Thomas-Asante and Okay Yokuslu in quick succession, still have a strong starting line-up.
That was clear to see against QPR, although Goodman is right in pointing out that the subs’ bench did lack serious quality.
Summer recruits Lewis Dobbin, Ousmane Diakite, Gianluca Frabotta and Devante Cole all came on and may prove to be key players are the season goes on.
Aside from those, though, Caleb Taylor, Fenton Heard, Mo Faal and Reece Hall were the only other options for Corberan to call upon.

Injuries and suspensions will hit as the season goes on and the loss to Fleetwood shows many of the fringe players cannot yet be trusted.
Hopefully Shilen Patel will sanction at least another couple of new signings, but time is fast running out to do so.
