Carlos Corberan drops Jed Wallace injury update ahead of West Brom clash v Leeds United

West Brom manager Carlos Corberan has confirmed that Jed Wallace could return from injury to feature against Leeds United.

The Baggies welcome the Whites to The Hawthorns on Saturday (17 August) as they look to bounce back from their disappointing Carabao Cup first-round exit at the hands of Fleetwood Town.

Albion could well be boosted by the return of their captain after he took part in first-team training on Thursday, but Corberan insists he will have to come through Friday’s (16 August) session unscathed first.

As quoted by the Express and Star on Thursday (15 August) he said: “Jed and Grady have both trained today with the group. It was not strong training but it was training.

“If both players react well from it, they will train tomorrow and if both are well with the situation that we have right now both have options to be involved in the squad.

“Wallace did part of the pre-season, not a full one. He had the problem during pre-season so it is a similar feeling but it is always good to recover players.”

Is West Brom captain Jed Wallace still injured at The Hawthorns?

West Brom’s Carabao Cup exit was disappointing, but their start to the Championship season away at QPR was excellent and Corberan will be hoping to replicate that display at The Hawthorns against Leeds.

While the Baggies boss will be reluctant to make too many changes to the side that got the business done at Loftus Road, he will be tempted to throw Wallace into the fold in some capacity if he is fit enough to feature.

Tom Fellows and Karlan Grant’s good displays against QPR should ensure that they keep their places in the starting XI and that would then allow Corberan to phase the returning winger back in from the substitutes bench.

Regardless of whether or not Wallace takes to the field against Daniel Farke’s side on Saturday, it is good to see that the Albion squad is almost back at full strength.

With a long Championship season ahead of the Baggies, Corberan is going to need as many players as possible fit and available.
