Callum Styles £2m release clause for West Brom to trigger amid transfer back-and-forth
West Brom transfer target Callum Styles has a £2million release clause in his Barnsley contract, according to Barnsley Chronicle.
Just a matter of weeks ago, West Brom had a bid rejected in their push to sign Styles (Sky Sports, 2 August).
Now, the aforementioned report (16 August) has said that negotiations are in an advanced stage with a Championship club – but it’s not clear how much has been offered.
Barnsley manager Darrell Clarke recently had the following to say on the matter.
“I have had a good chat with Stylesy,” said Clarke.
“If something manoeuvres, it manoeuvres. If not I know I have got his heart and mind. I won’t cut my nose to spite my face.
“We understand where we’re both coming from. I won’t cold-shoulder him.”
Callum Styles to West Brom?
Styles is a wanted man and rightfully so. For West Brom, this is a deal they’ve been looking at closely since last year. The 24-year-old has spent the last few years lighting up Oakwell, to the point where he was even able to earn a call-up to Hungary’s UEFA Euro 2024 squad.

Across games for Barnsley and Sunderland last season, the latter of which being a loan spell, he scored three goals to go alongside three assists (FBref). Alas, the heart of what he does stems from his midfield work. In addition to darting down the wing when necessary, he’s also able to control the tempo of a game with real composure.
That’s the kind of player the Baggies need when pushing for promotion. He can bring a sense of calm to a team that, at times, slips into being erratic.
For Carlos Corberan, this is exactly the kind of transfer he’ll want to bolster the squad.
