West Brom Women raid Wolves for Shan Turner transfer
West Brom Women have announced the signing of goalkeeper Shan Turner from Wolves.
The Baggies announced on Thursday (15 August) that the 26-year-old shot-stopper arrives at the Black Country club after three full seasons with Wolves.
Turner made 59 appearances for the club after joining from Boldmere St Michaels, with manager Siobhan Hodgetts-Still buzzing to get the deal done to add competition for Anna Miller in between the sticks.
She said: “I’m really excited to have Shan here with us at the Albion. She’s an experienced player in this league and also has plenty of international experience too.
“I’m looking forward to working with her this season, and I’m sure she’ll flourish with us.”
West Brom raid Black Country rivals for Shan Turner transfer
The West Brom and Wolves rivalry is just as active as ever after the two men’s teams faced off in the FA Cup last season, so this move may be seen as slightly controversial.
However, Turner looks to be a very solid transfer for Hodgetts-Still’s team ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, becoming a key figure as Wolves Women lifted the Northern Premier Division trophy in 2021/22
They also won back-to-back Birmingham Challenge Cups, with the 26-year-old ‘keeper once again playing a key role in their success.
Competition for goalkeepers is rarely ever a bad thing for football teams, and the Baggies have unearthed an incredible challenge for Miller in Turner.
The ‘keeper is a Northern Irish international, so the current goalkeeper will certainly have her hands full when it comes to keeping her spot in the starting XI.
Fans will be extremely excited for the new season to get underway, and with the recent transfer business for the Baggies, such as Rhianne Oakley arriving from Cardiff City, promotion for West Brom Women will not seem too far away.
