Tony Brown blasts ‘crazy’ John Swift incident in West Brom v Leeds United after what he saw
Tony Brown has blasted the referee’s decision to book John Swift for West Brom against Leeds United.
The Baggies had the better of the opening 45 against Daniel Farke’s side without being able to make it count with an opening goal.
One of the main talking points of the half came as the 29-year-old was booked for a foul on Mateo Joseph.
It is safe to say that Brown, while speaking live on BBC Radio WM on 17 August (1:03pm), didn’t agree with the referee’s decision.
He said: “John Swift has been booked there, very unlucky I thought. He got the ball but you’re booked for nothing sometimes nowadays. It’s crazy I think.”
John Swift picks up first half West Brom booking v West Brom
The first half went back and forth but Carlos Corberan’s men had the better chances on the whole with Darnell Furlong making a nuisance of himself with his long throws.
Kyle Bartley probably should have scored midway through the half as the ball bounced off him and narrowly wide of Illan Meslier’s goal.
The Baggies were sound defensively with Tom Fellows given a more defensive-minded role for the clash.
This hampered his ability to get forward but allowed the home side to keep hold of the ball against a typically attacking and possession-based side.
With Farke’s side looking to counter where possible as a result, it was frustrating to see Swift pick up a booking so early on in the game.
The former Reading man will have to be careful for the remainder of the time he is on the pitch given the quality that the Whites possess going forward.
