West Brom ready to offer striker in player-plus-cash bid for £2m Callum Styles

West Brom are ready to offer striker Mo Faal in a player-plus-cash bid to sign Callum Styles from Barnsley, according to Alan Nixon.

The Sun journalist reported via his Patreon account on Sunday (18 August) that Albion have so far not been able to offer enough to convince Barnsley to sell the 24-year-old midfielder.

It is understood that in a bid to grease the wheels on a potential deal, the Baggies are now seeing if they can work Faal, 21, into a deal.

it’s been widely expected this summer that Faal will return to Walsall on loan after impressing at the Bescot in the second half of last season.

The Gambian striker scored his first goal for the Albion on Tuesday night in the 2-1 Carabao Cup defeat to Fleetwood and that may make Barnsley think that he could be worth a punt.

However, Styles has a £2million release clause in his deal at Oakwell [Barnsley Chronicle] and Faal is unlikely to be worth anywhere near £1million, let alone double that, so there’ll have to be a substantial amount of cash stumped up for the Hungary international as well.

Styles, who was born in Oldham, is a versatile midfielder who usually plays in the middle or out on either wing.

He is yet to play this season for the Tykes but last term he scored three goals and assisted two in 20 League One appearances before being loaned to Sunderland in the Championship in January. At the Stadium of Light, he played 12 times and assisted one goal, which was Pierre Ekwah’s winner at The Hawthorns in April.
