Barnsley midfielder Callum Styles on verge of West Brom transfer

West Brom are close to finalising the signing of Callum Styles from Barnsley, according to The Yorkshire Post.

The outlet reported on its online edition [18 August] that Styles is “set to complete a move” between the two clubs.

Baggies news source Dood reported earlier the same day that Albion had bid £500,000 plus striker Mo Faal for the 24-year-old.

That offer was said to way below what Barnsley were asking for, but an agreement does now appear to be in place.

West Brom add another midfielder to squad

Assuming this deal does indeed get over the line, Carlos Corberan will have another midfielder to call upon in what will hopefully be a battle for the top six.

Styles is an established performer in the English Football League, having spent time in League Two, League One and indeed the Championship in spells with Bury, Millwall, Sunderland and most recently Barnsley.

Now back in League One, many will question if the Hungary international is really good enough to challenge for a starting spot in the Baggies’ first-choice midfield.

If nothing else, it gives Corberan a chance to rotate a little more – and that is always welcome. If Faal is part of the deal, though, that means weakening up top.

Either way, it is encouraging to see the club still working on deals as we fast approach the 30 August deadline. Fingers crossed Styles is the first of two or three more incomings before then.
