West Brom progress in loan talks to sign Uros Racic as giant Okay Yokuslu replacement
Uros Racic’s proposed move to West Brom is set to be a loan deal from Sassuolo, according to Express & Star.
Lewis Cox reported via the outlet’s website on 19 August that discussions over the “giant” midfielder’s switch were progressing well, although he added via X it wasn’t yet close.
The Serbian is expected to come in as a replacement for former key man Okay Yokuslu after the Turkish international’s exit to Trabzonspor.
His “towering” six foot four inch frame is expected to bring “real physicality” to the Albion’s midfield if he completes a move.
Carlos Corberan looks to add another West Brom loanee
The 26-year-old has 12 Serbia caps to his name but only made 22 Serie A appearances as Sassuolo were relegated from the top flight, with just eight starts.
In their straitened financial circumstances this summer the Baggies have to strengthen with whatever they can and if Racic can impose himself on the midfield in the Championship it could be important.
As an established international and a former Valencia, Braga and Red Star Belgrade player Carlos Corberan will hope that he can have the same sort of impact as Yokuslu did after a relatively under-the-radar signing two years ago under Steve Bruce.
Ousmane Diakite has also been added in central midfield this summer but the manager says that he is still adapting to the move from Austria, to demonstrate that West Brom aren’t necessarily in a position to sign immediate impact players.
After a reasonably solid start to the campaign it looks like activity in and out of The Hawthorns is likely to continue right up until the deadline, with young striker Reyes Cleary set to leave for Walsall [Cox, 19 August].
