West Brom have not returned to Preston North End with a second bid for Will Keane after their first was rejected, according to George Hodgson.

The Lancashire Post journalist posted on X (21 August) to report that Preston did reject an offer from the Baggies for 31-year-old striker Keane, and Carlos Corberan's side "haven't come back" with a new bid.

Will Keane interest suggests West Brom still want striker transfer

West Brom's exciting start to the season put their dearth of options up front to the back of everyone's minds, as Josh Maja netted a hat-trick to beat QPR 3-1 on the opening day.

In the week since though, goals have been more difficult to come by; failing to overturn a 2-1 deficit in a shock EFL Cup loss to Fleetwood Town before a 0-0 stalemate with Leeds United at the Hawthorns.

New signing Devante Cole was one of the Baggies' brighter shoots in their 2-1 reverse at Fleetwood, but given he only arrived on a free transfer from League One side Barnsley, Corberan needs more.

Despite his QPR hat-trick, Maja cannot carry the can alone, and thus pursuing the likes of Keane implies that the club's hierarchy want to give Corberan the firepower required in attack.

Prying a first-choice Championship striker out of his club this late in the transfer window will be no easy feat, and the Baggies' failure to make a second bid – yet – suggests they are indeed looking elsewhere.
