West Brom transfer windfall comes at exactly right time after multi-million Dara O’Shea news
West Brom netting a £1.6million sell-on fee from Dara O’Shea’s impending transfer to Ipswich Town couldn’t have come at a better time for Carlos Corberan.
Daily Telegraph journalist Mike McGrath posted on X (24 August) to report that Ipswich and Burnley had agreed a deal for the transfer of former Albion defender O’Shea, totalling around £15million.
Previously, club news source DOOD had reported (13 August) that the Baggies are entitled to receive 20 per cent of any profit Burnley make on the £7m fee paid to sign O’Shea in 2023.
As a result, £1.6m of Burnley’s roughly £8m profit on O’Shea will be making its way to The Hawthorns, potentially providing much-needed funds as the transfer deadline approaches.
West Brom must spend transfer windfall wisely as deadline looms
Just days ago, Corberan was stating that Albion still needed to bring in two new transfers before the 30 August cut-off point, to fill the gaps vacated by key players who have left the club this summer.
Uros Racic is one of the Baggies’ most recent signings from Sassuolo and a potential coup given previous links with big-money moves to England, while Callum Styles has also been announced after a medical [DOOD, 23 August].
However, with the likes of Cedric Kipre and Okay Yokuslu having departed in this window, further additions could still be needed across several areas of the pitch.
The arrival of Devante Cole on a free transfer can’t solely fill the void left by Brandon Thomas-Asante’s exit to Coventry, hence Corberan has been exploring attacking options at other Championship clubs [Lancashire Post, 21 August].
It’s clear that West Brom’s work is not yet done in the transfer market, and with the club having to stump up the cash to give Corberan the squad he wants, the Spaniard will have his fingers crossed that O’Shea’s £15m switch from Burnley to Ipswich goes smoothly.
