Don Goodman makes Torbjorn Heggem transfer claim at West Brom
Don Goodman has hailed the impact made by new West Brom signing Torbjorn Heggem and does not believe Conor Townsend will be missed.
West Brom brought in Heggem from Swedish top-flight outfit Brommapojkarna in July for a fee of around £525,000 [Express & Star, 4 July].
The 25-year-old has started all three of Albion’s league games this season at left-back, filling the void left by Townsend’s move to Ipswich Town.
Goodman does not believe any further additions are needed in that area going forward in a positive outlook on the current Baggies squad.
“You can see them getting through the season, with the greatest of respect, not missing Townsend given how well Torbjorn Heggem has done,” he told West Brom News.
“The way Josh Maja has started, too, West Brom can get through the season without missing Brandon Thomas-Asante if he is to stay fit. You can also see them getting through the season not missing Okay Yokuslu with the right addition.
“All this is dependent on who else comes through the door between now and deadline day. It’s a squad that is together and one that believes in the manager, or else they wouldn’t have started as brightly as they have in the league.”
West Brom deserve praise for transfer business
While things may have looked bleak on the transfer front earlier this month when the likes of Townsend, Yokuslu and Thomas-Asante left, Albion have quietly gone about bringing in new faces.
Heggem is one of those that was unheralded given nobody had previously seen him in action, a few grainy YouTube clips aside.
The defender has slotted in brilliantly in a wide position, playing his part in a clean sheet against Leeds United and assisting a goal in the win at QPR.

Albion do not often have the privilege of spending money on a player, but once again they have chosen wisely.
Let’s just hope he can replicate his performances thus far across the remainder of the campaign.
In other West Brom news, Goodman has talked up the possibility of Albion bringing in players on loan from the Premier League.
