Wolves priced out of deal for West Brom fan Aaron Ramsdale amid Molineux financial woes

West Brom fan Aaron Ramsdale won’t be making a move to Wolves this summer after they failed to meet Arsenal’s financial demands, according to BBC Sport.

The broadcaster reported on 27 August that despite Wolves making a loan offer with a £20million option to buy at the season’s end, talks with Arsenal have flatlined and the deal now looks highly unlikely to happen.

Unable to offer more than their previous loan-to-buy bid, Wolves’ financial issues have seen them pull out of the prospective transfer, even though they’ve collected over £100m in player sales this summer.

Ramsdale is likely to make a move before the transfer window closes on 30 August, but won’t be joining the Albion’s arch-rivals, having made his Arsenal debut against the Baggies back in 2021.

West Brom fans to breathe sigh of relief after Aaron Ramsdale news

The sight of a boyhood Baggies fan sporting the colours of their biggest rivals – even in a goalkeeper kit – would be hard to stomach for The Hawthorns faithful, who will be delighted with this news.

It’s arguably a positive story on two fronts for Albion fans, who have seen the club go through their fair share of financial troubles in recent years and can likely sympathise with the situation Wolves are in.

However, as January’s hot-tempered FA Cup fourth-round tie proved, there’s certainly no love lost between the two sets of fans, and the response to Ramsdale playing at Molineux would have been bleak.

Albion fans will also now retain hope that one day, if and when Carlos Corberan takes them back to the promised land, Ramsdale could line up between The Hawthorns sticks with his reputation as a fan intact.

Wolves’ financial worries and failure to sign key transfer targets suggests a fight against relegation is on the cards this season, raising the prospect of facing the Baggies again in the second tier next year.

However, regardless of how much they’d love to see Wolves relegated, you’d struggle to find an Albion fan who wouldn’t rather pass them on the way up.

In other West Brom news, Carlos Corberan revealed why new signing Uros Racic wasn’t available to face Stoke City last weekend.
