Lewis Cox shares if West Brom will make more signings after Mikey Johnston
West Brom do not plan on making any other transfers once they complete the permanent signing of Mikey Johnston, according to Lewis Cox.
The Express and Star journalist posted on X (29 August) to report that as things stand, Republic of Ireland international Johnston is set to be the final new recruit of Albion’s summer window, barring any last-gasp exits.
Johnston is reportedly on the brink of a return to The Hawthorns in a £3million permanent deal [TalkWBA, 28 August], with a medical scheduled for Thursday after the 25-year-old opted for a move to the Baggies over Burnley.
Carlos Corberan had previously said that he wanted two more additions before the window shuts on 30 August, but attempts to sign a striker have reportedly been shelved in order to seal a deal for Johnston.
West Brom finalise summer business with Mikey Johnston transfer
For all the incomings to have arrived at The Hawthorns this summer, none will excite Baggies fans to the extent of Johnston’s impending signing after he lit up the Championship in Albion colours last season.
Seven goals and two assists in just 20 appearances between February and May gave Corberan’s side a new dimension in attack, helping them maintain a spot in the play-offs before losing to Southampton.
That semi-final defeat at St. Mary’s looked to have been curtains for Johnston’s Baggies career, but the late twist which sees him bound for The Hawthorns once more will be music to every single fan’s ears.
Johnston’s return to Celtic at the end of last season sparked an exodus of key players from Corberan’s promotion-chasing side, with Cedric Kipre, Conor Townsend, Okay Yokuslu three big names departing.
However, that trio have all been replaced to a certain extent, and though there may still be a gap in attack after Brandon Thomas-Asante’s exit, the goals and assists which Johnston could provide once more will surely make up for the lack of a new striker alongside Josh Maja and Devante Cole.
In other West Brom news, Albion fan Aaron Ramsdale won’t be making an unpopular move to Wolves this summer.
