Luton Town to lodge official bid for West Brom ace Jed Wallace, it could reach seven figures
West Brom captain Jed Wallace is set to be the subject of an official transfer bid from Luton Town, according to WBA Report.
The Albion news site posted on X (29 August) to report that Luton are preparing a bid of around £750,000 to sign the Baggies midfielder, which would rise towards a £1million fee in total.
Wallace’s wages demands reportedly would not be an issue for the Championship side, who were relegated from the Premier League last season, with Luton’s interest now being “concrete”.
Carlos Corberan’s side are on the brink of securing the return of former loanee Mikey Johnston on a permanent deal from Celtic [Lewis Cox, 28 August], opening the door for Wallace, also a wide midfielder, to depart.
Should West Brom sanction Jed Wallace transfer to Luton Town?
While bringing in close to £1m for a 30-year-old winger, who has never played higher than the Championship looks to be a sensible move, Albion should exercise caution before selling their skipper.
Wallace is not only the captain of Carlos Corberan’s side, he also brings significant experience to a team that has undergone its biggest overhaul in several years over the course of this summer.
If the club’s financial situation warrants a sale in order to give Johnston’s £3m transfer from Celtic the green light, selling Wallace in order to facilitate the Irishman’s ‘statement’ signing is a no-brainer.
However, the club should also be wary of directly strengthening a side who they’re expected to compete with in the fight for promotion, with Corberan knowing exactly what Wallace can bring to Luton.
The future of Tom Fellows, who is attracting eight-figure attention from Southampton late in the window [DOOD, 27 August], could also come under huge scrutiny as the transfer deadline edges closer.
If Albion have already sold Wallace to Luton if and when a bid for Fellows arrives that is too good for the club to turn down, the club’s hierarchy may rue allowing their captain to depart at this late stage.
In other West Brom news, Albion fan Aaron Ramsdale won’t be making an unpopular move to Wolves this summer.
