Portsmouth in hunt to re-sign Jed Wallace in late deal with West Brom

Portsmouth are chasing a deal to re-sign West Brom club captain Jed Wallace before the transfer deadline, according to DOOD.

The Albion news source posted on X [29 August] to claim that Wallace is the subject of interest from both former club Pompey, and Luton Town.

The 30-year-old left Fratton Park – where he had graduated through the club’s academy – to join Wolves in 2015, and has two years remaining on his current Baggies contract.

West Brom to lose Jed Wallace late in the day?

It could be an interesting late development regarding Wallace and Portsmouth, who have already taken the homecoming route for a signing this summer when they brought back youth product Matt Ritchie from Newcastle United.

West Brom have managed to get 91 games and 12 goals out of the winger since his arrival from Millwall in 2022, since handing him the armband as a positive, articulate dressing room influence.

In terms of game time, however, it looks as if Wallace is no longer first-choice for Carlos Corberan, who has brought him on twice from the bench this season.

The imminent arrival of Mikey Johnston on a permanent deal from Celtic is a huge coup for Albion, whilst Tom Fellows could still stay at The Hawthorns, allowing Wallace to possibly pursue a new opportunity – or, in this case, to revisit an old one.

It cannot be forgotten that Luton are also in the mix, showing “serious interest” according to DOOD [28 August], and could be first to lodge a bid.
