West Brom axe external company after Wolves controversy
West Brom have announced they have parted ways with an external company they used for stewarding last year.
An Albion Assembly meeting took place at The Hawthorns on Thursday (15 August), with the minutes posted via the club’s official website on Wednesday (28 August).
During the meeting, Head of Security & Matchday Operations, Howard Lewis-Jones provided an update on the club’s stewarding plans for the season.
West Brom have recruited 50 of their own stewards while replacing one of the two external companies they used during the 2023/24 season.
West Brom take extra safety precautions at The Hawthorns
This feels like an important decision considering the ugly scenes that unfolded during West Brom’s 2-0 FA Cup defeat to Wolves at The Hawthorns last season (28 January).
Violence among supporters in attendance led to the match being suspended, with play not restarting until 39 minutes later. As per Birmingham Live (13 March), the Baggies were charged with misconduct by the Football Association following the incident.
As confirmed by Lewis-Jones during the Albion Assembly meeting, the police investigation is still ongoing, and 46 people have been punished.
The scenes at The Hawthorns were unpleasant and for a brief moment took football back to the dark ages.
Therefore, after such an unfortunate incident, the Baggies needed to respond in the right way this season, and it appears as though they have by stepping up security measures at the club.

All eyes will be on The Hawthorns this year, and the Baggies must ensure no similar problems arise this season.
