Caleb Taylor exit update at West Brom as League One club lead last-minute loan race

Wycombe Wanderers are leading the last-minute transfer race to sign West Brom youngster Caleb Taylor on loan according to Lewis Cox.

The Express and Star journalist reported via X on Friday (30 August) that the League One side are the current favourites to sign the defender before the window slams shut at 11pm on Friday 30 August.

Taylor has featured on the Baggies’ bench in all three of their opening Championship matches this season and captained the side in their Carabao Cup clash against Fleetwood having spent part of last season on loan with Bolton.

Will Caleb Taylor exit West Brom ahead of transfer deadline?

Carlos Corberan is known to be a major fan of Taylor and he has put a lot of faith in the 21-year-old in the past, but it does feel as though another loan move away from The Hawthorns would be the best decision for his future development.

The young defender didn’t feature loads with Bolton last term and while he did have an impressive loan spell with Cheltenham Town in League One previously, he hasn’t played much regular football for a full season now.

Wycombe have had a difficult start to their League One season and that could be a blessing in disguise for both Taylor and the Baggies. A move to Adams’ Park will ensure that he is tested which will prepare him for the Championship.

Of course, things can change incredibly quickly at this stage of the transfer window and there is every chance a different club could swoop in and secure his signature instead, but at the moment a move to Wycombe is more likely.

Hopefully, the finishing touches can be put on this deal well before the transfer deadline as it could free up some wages for Corberan and his recruitment to spend in the final hours.
