West Brom do what they haven’t done for years with Mikey Johnston transfer
Dan Bardell has credited Mikey Johnston for turning down Sheffield United as he moves closer to a West Brom return.
The Express and Star reported on 29 August that the Ireland international has travelled to the Hawthorns to undergo a medical before signing a four-year deal.
This £3million move came out of the blue after the Celtic man looked set to join the Blades for £2.5m [Alan Nixon].
Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell has praised the 25-year-old and believes he will give the Baggies a huge boost for the season ahead.
Speaking exclusively to West Brom News, Bardell said: “I think credit to him because it probably would have been easier to join Sheffield United than West Brom.
“There seems to be an element of finishing off the job that he started because they came close to securing promotion.
“West Brom fans absolutely adore him and they probably didn’t realistically think they’d be able to get him back.
“To be able to spend that money is a real boost because they haven’t been able to do that for years.
“A key player under Corberan last season and with them linking up again you’d expect West Brom to be around that top six again.“
Mikey Johnston set for West Brom return
The wide man was electric in his six-month loan spell from the Hoops last campaign, leaving a lasting impression on the Hawthorns faithful.
His temporary move was so successful that it felt that he would be moving on to bigger and better things away from the Baggies.
A move to Bramall Lane appeared to be just that after a mostly positive summer window leaving them as one of the promotion favourites from the second tier.

Despite this, Johnston has opted to link back up with Corberan in the West Midlands and make a highly anticipated return to the Albion.
