West Brom fans all say same thing about Jayson Molumby – ‘stupid’, ‘poor’

West Brom fans were far from happy with midfielder Jayson Molumby before he scored the winning goal against Swansea City on Saturday (31 August).

Molumby had a mixed afternoon at The Hawthorns to say the least, picking up a yellow card for a reckless and needless lunge on Swansea captain Matt Grimes just 10 minutes into the contest.

However, the Republic of Ireland international grew in confidence thereafter, and having played a smart one-two with Josh Maja in the box, slid in to score the opening goal in the shadows of half-time.

The 25-year-old’s opener did prove to be decisive as the Baggies closed out a 1-0 win, but Molumby had long since left the field after getting injured while sliding in for a tackle – which had he connected, would surely have resulted in a second yellow card.

A needless booking, a crucial goal, and what looked to be an almost self-inflicted injury made up quite the 90 minutes for Molumby – albeit he was only able to play 66 of them due to the latter incident.

Molumby’s early yellow card came under significant scrutiny, with Albion news outlet DOOD posting on X to say: “He’s got to stop these stupid tackles so early on in games – he’s now sitting on a yellow card for the rest of the match.”

Fans replied in support of DOOD’s message, with one calling Molumby a “red card waiting to happen” after saying he would take the Irishman off, even as early as the red cards.

Another fan pointed to the different options at Carlos Corberan’s disposal waiting in the wings, saying it was a “good job” that Molumby could soon dropped for someone like Sassuolo loanee Uros Racic.

The disparaging din’t stop there, with another fan saying that Molumby is “nowhere near talented enough to be this much of a liability.”

Although he did manage to reprieve himself with the game-sealing goal which extends Albion’s unbeaten run, Molumby’s injury could soon give some Albion fans their wish to see a new face in central midfield.

In other West Brom news, Carlos Corberan could be targeted by one Premier League club who could be looking for a new manager.
