Tom Fellows valuation to rise after new transfer developments at West Brom

Tom Fellows staying at West Brom after Premier League interest is “brilliant news” for Carlos Corberan, according to Carlton Palmer.

Speaking to Football League World (2 September), the former Baggies midfielder said that Fellows could soon be worth much more than his £15million valuation after eight-figure bids from Ipswich and Southampton.

The Baggies rejected approaches from both newly-promoted Premier League sides for the 21-year-old late in the transfer window [DOOD, 27 August], with Palmer praising Albion’s stance despite their well-noted financial issues.

He said: “(Fellows) is an exciting player who is potentially going to have a fantastic future and is going to go up in valuation.

“He has already bagged three assists in the four opening games and struck up a dangerous partnership with Josh Maja, so it is brilliant news for West Bromwich Albion to keep hold of him.

“You look at the squad that Carlos Corberan has put together, given the fact that they have struggles with money, and they have had to ship players out.”

Tom Fellows set to play key role in West Brom promotion push

With three assists from the right-hand side already this season and further firepower set to be added to the side, Fellows has the potential to be a talismanic figure for Corberan in the coming months.

Accepting an eight-figure bid so late in the transfer window would certainly have freed up plenty of funds to find a replacement for Fellows, but significantly limited the time available to do so.

The Hawthorns crowd wouldn’t have been amiss to welcoming a new big-money signing on the right flank, but they’d much rather cheer on an academy graduate as he puts his stamp on Corberan’s side.

Baggies fans’ opinions of the board hit new heights with the news that Mikey Johnston would be returning to the club permanently, but selling Fellows simultaneously would have put a dampner on this.

A near-perfect summer of business – barring the acquisition of a new striker [John Percy, 30 August] –has added polish with Fellows staying put, and the 21-year-old is set to continue making his mark.
