Carlos Corberan an absolute mastermind at West Brom after new Tom Fellows announcement

Carlos Corberan is one of the best man-managers in the Championship, not that anyone at West Brom doubts that.

The Spaniard has worked wonders since arriving at The Hawthorns, especially thriving throughout the financial drama last season before Shilen Patel’s involvement, and certainly this season so far.

Following victories over QPR, Stoke City and Swansea City, and a stalemate 0-0 draw against Leeds United, the Baggies sit comfortably in second, two points off Sunderland in first.

This is despite a plethora of important player exits during the summer transfer window, including Okay Yokuslu, Brandon Thomas-Asante and Conor Townsend.

However, the manager’s impact does not just stop there. Academy graduate Tom Fellows has thrived under Corberan’s guidance, having already notched three assists in four league games this season.

There was a lot of clamour for the 21-year-old to start more games last term, having only been in the starting XI on 14 occasions in the Championship, but the manager clearly knows best.

West Brom star Tom Fellows earns England U21s call-up

The club confirmed that Fellows has received his first call-up to the England Under-21s squad ahead of the international break, being awarded for his superb start to the campaign.

Having earned the Man of the Match award against Stoke, grabbing both assists in a 2-1 win, it is really no surprise, but Corberan must take all the credit for bringing him through to the first team at the correct speed.

Despite his lack of senior experience, Fellows ranks in the top 87 percentile for assists across 14 leagues, also ranking in the top 96 percentile for progressive carries [FBref].

Of course, the youngster has plenty of development still to do, but the early signs in his career are extremely encouraging.

He maintains an 84 per cent pass completion and 75 per cent dribble completion so far this season. He has been a nuisance for the opposition full-backs, and he is only going to get better [FotMob].

His play is not limited to the attacking side, however, winning 80 per cent of his attempted tackles while also making two clearances, showing that Corberan has built him to be the complete package.

Fans will be incredibly proud to see Fellows make his England U21s debut, and they have Corberan to thank for that.
