Carlos Corberan gets West Brom transfer wish with Mason Holgate deal at Everton

Dan Bardell believes that Carlos Corberan would have wanted West Brom to sign Mason Holgate after his Deadline Day signing was confirmed.

The Baggies have re-signed the versatile defender on loan from Everton after an initial spell with the club in the second half of the 2018/19 season.

The 27-year-old was a regular then and after two tough loan spells with Southampton and Sheffield United last season will be hopeful of rebuilding his career at The Hawthorns.

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell thinks the deal suits everyone and will be a positive addition under Corberan.

Speaking exclusively to West Brom News, Bardell said: “If he’s ended up there then he’s someone that Carlos Corberan wants.

He knows the club and had a good spell there in the past. He has experience being at the top end of the Championship with West Brom and Southampton.

He’s a player who needs some stability in his career after getting lost in the mess that is Everton. It’s a good move for all parties in my opinion.

It could be said that the Baggies signed their former loanee for the sake of a signing on Deadline Day but that isn’t how the club works right now.

Corberan is a shrewd operator, both on the pitch and in the transfer market, and won’t accept just any player into his squad after such a good start.

A defensive addition was needed for the Albion and with the ability to play full back and centre half, Holgate could be a useful addition.

His best career spell came five years ago which ended with him missing a penalty in the playoff semi final against Aston Villa.
