Carlos Corberan names player he loves to work with at West Brom, says the club need to value him
Carlos Corberan has described West Brom defender Darnell Furlong as a player he loves working with.
Furlong has been a consistent performer under Corberan since the Spanish coach arrived at The Hawthorns almost two years ago.
And the 41-year-old has been singing his praises recently.
Speaking via the Express and Star (7 September), Corberan said, “Furlong is a player that personally I love to work with.
“He is a player we need as a club to value a lot because the number of minutes that he plays every season – without decreasing his level – shows that he is a very robust and very mentality strong player.
“With these natural things, he has added attacking and defensive behaviours that have made him for me one of the best full-backs of the Championship.”
Carlos Corberan piles praise on West Brom right-back Darnell Furlong
Furlong has played every minute in the EFL Championship so far this season, with the Baggies second in the table after an unbeaten start to the campaign.
The 28-year-old especially stood out in the club’s most recent outing, a 1-0 victory over Swansea at The Hawthorns on Saturday (31 August).
And it appears as though his impressive contributions haven’t gone unnoticed, with his manager taking the time to sing his praises while the Championship is on pause for the international break.
Corberan is clearly a big fan of Furlong, and his most recent comments might have perhaps been a slight message to Shilen Patel and the West Brom board.
Furlong is one of several first-team squad members out of contract at The Hawthorns next summer, with Jayson Molumby, Grady Diangana and John Swift’s deals all also set to expire.

Therefore, Corberan suggestions that West Brom need to “value” Furlong might have been a hint to the board that he wants a brand-new contract drawn up for the defender.
In other West Brom news, the club have snapped up a player formerly on West Ham United’s books.
