West Brom set for £8m financial windfall after announcement at The Hawthorns

West Brom season ticket sales at The Hawthorns will generate around £8million worth of income upfront, according to football finance expert Dan Plumley.

Albion have managed to sell 20,000 season tickets for the Championship campaign, 2,000 more than the Baggies managed last season and a club record for a season in the second tier [Lewis Cox, 15 August].

The Baggies’ matchday income will be partnered with the new EFL broadcast deal this season and Plumley insists these sources could be crucial now that the Baggies don’t have parachute payments.

“Even if you base 20,000 season tickets on the lowest adult price that generates you around £8million in matchday income upfront,” Plumley exclusively told West Brom News.

“You’ve got that money and that’s even more important now in the context of the club not having parachute payments and adjusting to the Championship in the last few years with that revenue drop that you get.

“The new EFL broadcast deal that we’re in the first year of will also boost club finances, but once you get out of that parachute payment period and you’re still in the Championship, there is an incentive to drive up matchday revenue.

“That becomes one of your more dominant revenue streams and even on some baseline figures, that will track West Brom around £8million in income.

“It’s good on the pitch that the supporters are getting behind the team given the backstory when that hasn’t always been the case in the last few years.

“Certainly good off of the pitch as well as it’s a healthy revenue line there from matchday income to build from as well.”

Are West Brom compliant with PSR at The Hawthorns?

West Brom’s financial issues since Shilen Patel arrived at the club have never been down to a lack of money or investment, but a need to comply with PSR and avoid a potential point deduction.

While £8million alone won’t be enough to ensure that the Baggies don’t breach financial fair play rules, that sort of immediate influx of cash can only be a good thing for Carlos Corberan’s side financially.
