West Brom ace Jayson Molumby subject of harsh Ireland decision in defeat v Greece

West Brom midfielder Jayson Molumby was harshly substituted off the pitch as the Republic of Ireland lost 2-0 to Greece in the Nations League on Tuesday night.

The Baggies midfielder will be returning to The Hawthorns with a point to prove after he was substituted in the 68th minute in Dublin, despite another positive performance in the centre of the park.

Ireland lost both of their Nations League matches during the international break, losing to England before the Greeks, although the 25-year-old was a top performer in each match.

Molumby was the first player to be hooked in their most recent loss, with manager Helmir Hallgrimsson opting to throw another striker onto the pitch in Evan Ferguson. However, the decision failed work in his favour.

Although the West Brom man will be disappointed with the games for his country, his performances could help his club side continue their push for promotion.

Molumby is the main cog in the West Brom machine

Sitting second in the Championship table, the Black Country club have been exceptional in the first four matches of the season, as has Molumby.

Scoring the only goal in the final match before the international break against Swansea City, the Irishman could play a huge role in the Baggies’ push for promotion.

Molumby has recorded a successful percentage of over 90 per cent in three of the opening four matches, creating a big chance every other game, according to FotMob.

This was quickly transferred over to Ireland where he once again created a big chance, as well as remaining above 80 per cent in passing accuracy against a much tougher opponent than those he faces in the Championship.

The midfielder may not always be in the headlines chipping in with goals and assists, but he keeps the game ticking, and Molumby is pivotal for Carlos Corberan, with the likes of Tom Fellows and Josh Maja benefitting from his calmness in the centre of the field to send the attacking players on their way.

In other West Brom news, the Baggies have done “outstanding” to keep hold of Tom Fellows.
