Mikey Johnston reveals the change he has seen in West Brom ace Tom Fellows

Mikey Johnston has seen a growing “confidence” in West Brom starlet Tom Fellows since returning to the club on a permanent transfer.

Speaking to the Express and Star (13 September), Johnston believes his teammate is an “important” player for the Baggies and can see “similarities” between the two.

The 25-year-old re-joined the club on a four-year deal from Celtic at the end of the transfer window, and will be looking to make his first start against Portsmouth.

He said: “It’s always nice to see people come through the academy, who is a fan of the club, doing well.

“I’ve seen him find his confidence since I’ve come back in, I’ve seen straight away a bit of a difference in him. Just in terms of his confidence. That’s something you find through games and doing well. I think he wants to be an important player this season and hopefully he can do that.

“Probably at the point he is at, I was starting games at Celtic and trying to find that consistency of playing. I can see similarities in the two of us.”

Can Mikey Johnston hit the ground running at West Brom?

Albion face Pompey this weekend as they look to continue their positive start to the season, with a bolstered attack as the winger looks to make his first start.

Albion possess some great wide players in their squad, and Johnston will be hopeful of making an impact after his £3million move from Glasgow.

The Irishman netted seven goals and grabbed two assists in the Championship during his loan spell, and will be eager to help the club push for promotion once more.

West Brom reached the play-offs last campaign, losing in the semi-finals to promoted Southampton, but a bright start to the new season sees them in the automatic spots in second place.

Johnston will be desperate to help the team and you sense that the form of he and Fellows will be crucial to their hopes.

Manager Carlos Corberan has a flurry of options at his disposal, but getting Johnston back was undoubtedly a coup.
