West Brom gem Mandey sends ‘beautiful’ message to Carlos Corberan after what he did
Carlos Corberan has been rather limited when it comes to calling up West Brom academy players but he may have to make an exception.
While Tom Fellows is a shining star at The Hawthorns after making his Baggies breakthrough last season, other academy products have either been loaned out or permanently sold.
Caleb Taylor has joined Wycombe Wanders on loan, earning some much-needed experience before returning to the club, but the likes of Zac Ashworth and Mo Faal have left on permanent deals.
Despite this, fans will be hoping to see one new name enter the first-team fringes, especially after what he did against Southampton in the Premier League Cup on Friday 13 September.
Replacing Cole Deeming with just four minutes left to play, Souleyman Mandey scored a vital equaliser, curling a “beautiful” strike off the underside of the bar and sparking celebrations [Official website].
Souleyman Mandey to earn West Brom debut?
The 18-year-old midfielder has certainly not done his chance of a senior debut any harm after scoring a screamer in the Premier League Cup.
Signed from Rangers in the summer of 2023, Mandey hit the ground running in the Midlands, making several appearances for the Under-18s side before being immediately promoted to the Under-21s.
He has not looked back since, becoming an integral part of Richard Beale’s side, so Corberan will undoubtedly be monitoring the player closely.
Mandey has plenty of experience across Europe, playing in Austria before making the move to Glasgow, with the Baggies now lucky enough to have him within their ranks.
It might not be too long until fans begin to see him more involved with the first-team set-up.
In other West Brom news, Newcastle United have signed Jayden Kouosso following a Hawthorns exit.
