Carlos Corberan hailed at West Brom, ‘imagine what he could do with Real Madrid’
Chris Dunleavy has pondered what Carlos Corberan could achieve with Real Madrid after hailing his work at West Brom.
The Baggies are sitting in fifth place in the Championship ahead of their clash against Portsmouth on Sunday (15 September), taking three wins and a draw from the opening four games of the season.
Corberan has experienced a lot of turmoil at The Hawthorns, most recently losing some of his key players during the summer transfer market, but he has still managed to work wonders so far this term.
Writing via the Football League Paper on Sunday (15 September, page 7), Dunlavy wrote: “It is this shapeshifting that makes him such an exciting coach, even when his football is dull.
“If he knows how to make West Brom and Huddersfield overperform, just imagine what he could do with Real Madrid. A move to the Bernabeu is probably a pipe dream.
“But West Brom entered the international break lying second in the Championship and if they maintain such lofty heights for the remainder of the season then Corberan will rightly enter the thinking of some very big clubs.”
Carlos Corberan good enough for Real Madrid due to West Brom exploits?
The Spaniard has overcome plenty of adversity during his time with the Baggies, leading the club straight into the Championship play-off spots.
Fans have started to believe their beloved club could secure promotion to the Premier League very soon, having agonisingly missed out on the chance to face Leeds United in the play-off final at Wembley last season.
Should the Baggies take all three points against newly promoted Portsmouth on Sunday, Corberan’s side will be sitting atop the Championship table after Sunderland’s surprise defeat to Plymouth Argyle.

While Corberan has done an incredible job at The Hawthorns and is rightly being praised, fans will be desperate for him to remain in the West Midlands rather than move elsewhere.
Football is a cut-throat sport, however, and if the boss continues to lead the Baggies towards the top of the Championship table, other clubs will be keeping a close eye on him.
