Tom Fellows to stay at West Brom after what Shilen Patel did at The Hawthorns

West Brom could be open to selling Tom Fellows in the future despite fending off transfer offers in the summer, according to football finance expert Dan Plumley.

The Baggies winger was the subject of Premier League interest in the final days of the transfer window, with Ipswich Town reportedly seeing an £11million bid rejected by Albion [The Sun, 28 August].

Although Carlos Corberan’s side are not in a “desperate” position to sell their brightest talents after Shilen Patel’s takeover, Plumley does admit that a good offer may still tempt Albion into cashing in.

They are probably seeing the longer-term potential in him,” Plumley told West Brom News.

“Despite some of the financial challenges they’ve had and obviously with the profit and sustainability regulations in the Championship, we know that they’ve been working with the EFL on that.

“But now, they’ve turned that ownership corner, they’ve got to look at the revenue mix post-parachute payments and adjust to that normal revenue in the Championship that a lot of other clubs are battling with.

“But they’re not also in a desperate position, it seems, to sell some of that talent which is a positive for the club.

“It’s one to look at in the longer term I think. That’s not to say that if a good offer comes in for Fellows in the future, it might be something that they look to change their stance on a little bit.

“But they have started the season well, there’s a bit of a feel-good factor coming back around the club and while you’re in that place, trigger decisions don’t need to happen as quickly as that and you can be a bit more forward-thinking.

“There’s got to be praise levelled at the new owners and the way that they want to shape the club and let’s see where it takes them in the future.

“It’s a big season for them either way, but there are positive signs there at the minute.”

Will Tom Fellows exit West Brom amid transfer speculation at The Hawthorns?

Albion do deserve credit for standing by their valuation of Fellows this summer. Most clubs would have happily accepted £11million at that stage of the transfer window, especially given the PSR concerns at The Hawthorns.

However, it won’t be as easy to turn down a £20million bid should it arrive in January. The Baggies might not be desperate for money at this moment in time, but that sort of sale could change the entire PSR landscape around The Hawthorns.
