Shilen Patel top priority has now changed as Carlos Corberan update shared

West Brom have got off to a flying start in the 2024/25 Championship season as they sit at the top of the table and are yet to lose a game.

There are only two other teams in the league who have also managed to go unbeaten thus far but nobody expected Carlos Corberan’s men to be as dominant as they have been.

Granted, a lot of it is down to the passion and ability of the players but without the direction of the Spaniard, who knows where the club would have ended up.

So that’s why it came as a surprise when it was reported on Wednesday (18 September) that the former Huddersfield Town manager had a £2million release clause included within his West Brom contract [Football Insider].

While Shilen Patel’s past priorities have been shoring up the future of the players and the team itself, it now feels as if it’s time for him to turn his attention elsewhere – and fast.

West Brom need to offer Carlos Corberan a new contract

Patel has reinforced the Baggies squad tenfold lately by bringing in the likes of Mikey Johnstone and Callum Styles to help bolster the club’s ranks.

The West Brom chairman has been laser-focused on bringing in players and offloading those who no longer quite cut it but now he needs to focus on laying out a new contract for the Spaniard to sign.

In today’s market, £2million is nothing to some of the bigger clubs and with the likes of Everton and Leeds United both not having the best of starts to their campaigns, rumours could start emerging once again.

Throughout the vast majority of the summer window, Corberan was linked with moves away to other clubs, with Burnley among those interested [The Sun, 26 June, page 46].

However, with Scott Parker taking the role with the Clarets and Steve Cooper scooping up the job at Leicester, the Spaniard stayed put.

Things can change in the blink of an eye in football these days and if Patel doesn’t manage to sort Corberan’s contract situation soon, the Baggies could find themselves in a rather sticky situation.

In other West Brom news, Carlos Corberan shared why he enjoys making “unfair decisions” at the Baggies.
