Jed Wallace makes amazing admission after what West Brom have done recently

Jed Wallace admitted it was “amazing” to return to Portsmouth after West Brom left Fratton Park with a 3-0 victory.

The Baggies have been in stellar form this term and find themselves top of the Championship table.

Wallace insists that the competition for places right now at The Hawthorns is high with the quality shining through at the start of the season.

Speaking on the Football Daily Podcast (18 September, 20:29), Wallace opened up on the latest win.

“It was another great victory for us,” he said. “Portsmouth probably gave us the toughest 45 minutes of the season so far I think.

“On a personal note, it was amazing to go back to Portsmouth and see so many people that I’ve not seen in such a long time that make that such a special football club.

“I think for us it’s been a really, really good start.

“We all know what the Championship is like, we all know how quickly it can change but we’ve just got to keep our heads down and keep working.

“There’s so much competition for places at the moment, I think the quality you can see at the moment on the bench shows how much depth we’ve got at the moment so we just keep rolling into Plymouth now and try to get as many points as we can on the board as quickly as possible.”

Carlos Corberan works wonders at West Brom

There’s no denying that Carlos Corberan has helped the Baggies level up.

The Spaniard seems to have a way with teams that allows him to make them click almost instantly.

So, it comes as no surprise that many clubs have been circling the manager, especially since he has a £2million release clause in his contract [Football Insider, 18 September].

While Corberan was courted by many clubs during the summer and wasn’t swiped up by anyone, the fact that Everton are now being mooted as a potential destination for the manager should cause alarm bells to start ringing [The Express, 31 August].

The quality within the squad is high right now, with Wallace struggling to start highlighting just how good it has been so far this season.

However, without the Spaniard leading the way, things could take a turn for the worse and the Baggies could find themselves back at square one.
