West Brom boss Carlos Corberan told what decision to make amid Everton job suggestion

Carlos Corberan has been advised to remain put at West Brom amid a suggestion he could soon be on the radar of Everton.

The Spaniard has been touted as an option to replace Sean Dyche at Goodison Park [The Express] after an impressive start to the Championship season, with the Baggies in the top spot after five matches.

Football 365 journalist Lewis Oldham [19 September] named Corberan as one of the standout candidates in the Championship to replace Dyche but suggested remaining in the second tier would be the wiser move.

“Standouts in the Championship (Carlos Corberan, Danny Rohl and Marti Cifuentes) should think better of having their crack at Premier League management with the relegation strugglers,” he wrote.

Carlos Corberan should reap the rewards with West Brom

The difference in fortunes between West Brom and Everton at the start of the season is more than enough reason for Corberan to remain at The Hawthorns.

Dyche is looking increasingly likely to leave the Premier League side in the coming weeks and, when he does, Corberan is likely to be among the list of candidates to replace him, with a large section of the Everton fanbase viewing the 41-year-old as the “perfect” replacement.

However, with the club now pulled into a relegation battle after four games, Corberan would be taking a massive risk taking the step up to the top flight with his side on course for a Premier League return this year.

The Everton job has become a poisoned chalice, with previous managers barely able to get their feet under the table before they’re shown the door.

Corberan has built a strong reputation in the West Midlands and is truly loved by the West Brom faithful – something he may never feel from Everton supporters if he were to ever make the move.

The Baggies are building something special under Corberan and must do everything to thwart Everton’s advances should they come knocking.
