Carlos Corberan makes Uros Racic decision ahead of West Brom vs Plymouth Argyle
Carlos Corberan is set to give Uros Racic his first West Brom start against Plymouth with concerns over Jayson Molumby’s fitness, according to DOOD.
The Albion news outlet posted on X (19 September) to report that Racic was in line to make his first Albion start against Plymouth on 21 September, with Corberan facing a late call on Molumby’s availability.
Racic arrived at The Hawthorns on 22 August on a season-long loan from Sassuolo, and with Molumby a doubt to face Argyle after aggravating a calf issue, the Serbian looks set to come into the starting XI.
Uros Racic could keep West Brom place following maiden start
Signed to much fanfare towards the end of the transfer window having previously been linked with a big-money move to Manchester United while at Valencia, Racic’s time appears to have come.
Corberan’s table-topping Baggies are undefeated after five games with four wins and a draw so far, all of which have come with the Spaniard naming an five unchanged starting XI’s on the bounce.
Still only 26, Racic has the potential to form a rock-solid partnership with Alex Mowatt in the Albion midfield, though Molumby’s strong form means he will be tough to displace long-term.
However, as an out-and-out defensive midfielder, compared with Molumby’s keenness to get forward when possible, Racic could unlock the clear goalscoring ability possessed by Mowatt.
Corberan will be hesitant to make too many changes to a winning team, but with Racic in line to replace Molumby, this could be the first alteration which becomes a permanent fixture this season.
In other West Brom news, Corberan has been told to pull up one player for his ’embarrassing play-acting’ in the win over Portsmouth.
