The Hawthorns hits back at Plymouth fans after West Brom incident in Championship

West Brom supporters hit back at the travelling Plymouth Argyle fans after their chants echoed around The Hawthorns following Josh Maja’s disallowed goal on Saturday.

The 25-year-old thought he gave the Baggies the lead in the first half on 21 September but was adjudged offside in the build-up by the linesman.

A chorus of “Sit down, shut up” can be heard from the away supporters in BBC Radio West Midlands’ [21 September] live coverage of the match with presenter Steve Hermon offering his reaction.

He said: “Sit down, shut up say the Plymouth fans that’s a classic, classic chant.”

The home support didn’t take the jibes lying down and responded with a rendition of “We forgot that you were here”.

Maja went on to score his sixth goal of the season in the second half to secure Albion a 1-0 win.

West Brom v Plymouth Argyle became a tense affair

Carlos Corberan was supposed to enjoy a relatively straightforward afternoon at The Hawthorns against Plymouth but the visitors made life hard for the Baggies.

Maja should have opened the scoring for the hosts twice inside the goalless first half and the Plymouth fans ensured the forward knew he should have been more clinical with their jibes.

The Nigerian has been in sensational form at the start of the season and despite missing early chances, he found his sixth goal of the campaign, in the second half to secure all three points from what proved to be a cagey affair.
