Wayne Rooney shares Josh Maja verdict after West Brom beat Plymouth in Championship

Wayne Rooney admits it’s hard to prepare for playing against Josh Maja after the West Brom striker scored the winner against Plymouth Argyle.

The Baggies have continued their excellent start to the season with a 1-0 home win against the Pilgrims on Saturday 21 September.

The 25-year-old scored the winner at The Hawthorns which caught the attention of the opposition manager, transcribed by The Mail on Sunday (22 September, page 92).

Rooney said: “Josh Maja’s an interesting player. He’s difficult to prepare for. He drops in almost into a false nine position.

“When you have a player who’s confident and scoring goals, he always seems to get that one opportunity and make the difference.”

There have been many key performers for the Albion but the combination of the striker and Tom Fellows has been eye-catching, to say the least.

The former Sunderland forward has started the season in electric fashion, boosting the Baggies to top spot in the Championship.

This continued against Plymouth with Carlos Corberan’s side showing a different way to win with a narrow win at home where Uros Racic showed his class.

Maja continues to show his class and doesn’t appear to be slowing down with his goal scoring exploits even being praised by an England legend in Rooney.

The former Manchester United man knows a thing or two about scoring and what makes a good striker to say the least.

The Baggies striker will just be hoping that he can maintain his fitness and remain injury-free to keep up his form at The Hawthorns.
