Carlos Corberan exit verdict emerges at West Brom amid ‘incredible’ Leeds United links
Carlton Palmer has shared a new Carlos Corberan exit verdict admitting it is “incredible” the West Brom boss has been tipped to replace Daniel Farke.
Reports have suggested that Leeds United are keeping tabs on the Baggies boss, with Farke under pressure to win promotion back to the Premier League at Elland Road [Sunday Mirror, 22 September, page 72].
Although Football League World pundit Palmer believes the Whites were interested in Corberan in the past, he thinks it is “disrespectful” that there has been speculation about Farke’s future at Leeds.
Speaking to Football League World (23 September) he said: “I don’t know where all this noise is coming from, I know there was an interest in Carlos Corberan before they appointed Daniel Farke.
“Corberan came out, and stated that he wanted to stay at West Bromwich Albion at the time, but if there was an interest, then surely they would have done that at the time when they brought Daniel Farke in.
“I think it’s disrespectful. Daniel Farke took them to the play-off final and, obviously, people are disappointed that they weren’t promoted last season, but he had a lot of work to do and got 90 points. If he delivers 90 points again this season, they will be promoted.
“Why are they saying that he’s not safe, and who is saying that? Is this coming out of Leeds or is this coming out just from the media? I mean, they’ve played six games, won three games, drawn two. They’ve only lost one game so far.
“They’re on 11 points and only five points off West Bromwich Albion after six games. So, I find it incredible that we’re even having this conversation.
“Unless he’s not in a position of getting Leeds promoted, that means automatic either first or second, or in the playoffs, then there should be no talk about Daniel Farke losing his job.
“There is an awful long way to go. I expect Leeds United to be in the shake-up coming towards the end of the season.”
Will Carlos Corberan exit West Brom amid Leed United and Elland Road links?
West Brom supporters will be desperate to keep Corberan at The Hawthorns both this season and beyond, particularly after Albion’s incredible start to the season under the Spanish manager.
Although the 41-year-old does have a strong squad at his disposal, he has helped elevate players to levels that they have never before reached with his excellent man management and clear tactical style.

Of course, that will have caught the interest of other clubs and while the Baggies are successful teams will be keeping tabs on Corberan, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that his days at The Hawthorns are numbered.
Albion inserted a buy-out clause in the region of £4million in the former Huddersfield boss’ deal so while there is always a chance he could depart, he doesn’t appear to be interested in pushing for a move elsewhere [DOOD, 22 September].
