Carlos Corberan exit concerns raised at West Brom after new Everton developments
Chris Lepkowski admits that he is concerned by suggestions West Brom boss Carlos Corberan could replace Sean Dyche at Everton.
Reports suggest that the Albion manager could be among the Toffees options if they look to make a change in the dugout after a miserable start to the Premier League season [The Express, 31 August].
Although Lepkowski is worried that a move to Goodison Park would be an attractive proposition for Corberan, the former Birmingham Mail reporter insists that it would “take a lot” for the Baggies boss to leave The Hawthorns.
Speaking on The Liquidator Podcast (22 September) he said: “The Leeds thing doesn’t excite me too much if I’m honest.
“He’s turned them down once already when they were a Premier League club, albeit one that was struggling to survive at the time.
“Everton is a different one because as you rightly say, on the face of it Everton look a complete mess and justifiably so, we can allude to that after how their decline has set in over the last few years with different managers.
“But they are moving to a new stadium. You and I are old enough to remember Everton as a massive, massive club that used to win the league, used to provide England with internationals and were genuinely one of the big clubs.
“In fact, they were one of the big five who pushed for the Premier League to be set up in the first place. They are a massive club, even though on the face of it they are a complete mess. They’re the kind of club that could easily replicate what Aston Villa have done for instance.
“That one does concern me, Everton does come with a little bit of a red flag because somebody somewhere will think that they can get that club right and of course it’s such a bigger challenge
“Inevitably there will be greater resources in terms of wages and salaries and if a takeover is successful and I think it will be, then eventually they will have the ability to recruit.
“That one does concern me, but I think Carlos Corberan is really difficult to judge because you can hear him after a match and it doesn’t matter if you’ve lost or won, he’s the same.
“I think it would take a lot to get him away from Albion right now and I don’t think there are many jobs available that would come up in the Premier League that would do that.”
Will Carlos Corberan exit The Hawthorns amid West Brom rumours?
West Brom supporters won’t want to hear it, but a move to the Premier League is always going to appeal to both players and managers and unfortunately, Corberan won’t be any different.
The hope that Albion have however is the fact that they have a real chance of winning promotion this season. There is a lot of football to be played still, but the initial signs suggest the Baggies will be in the promotion fight.
Corberan will probably feel that it is worth sticking around The Hawthorns for at least this season alone as there is a genuine chance that he could be a Premier League manager by the time May rolls around.

Even if Everton do make a move to secure the Spanish boss, Albion have ensured that they will at least pocket a reasonable fee for his services having inserted a buy-out clause in his deal [DOOD, 22 September].
Hopefully, it won’t come to that, however. It would be a massive blow to their promotion hopes if they were to lose one of if not the, best managers in the Championship.
