Carlos Corberan shares Daryl Dike injury update at West Brom

Daryl Dike is expected to return from injury over the next five or six weeks at West Brom, Carlos Corberan has said.

Speaking to the Express and Star (25 September), the Baggies boss said Dike is making his way back towards first-team training, but the nature of his injury means the club are not rushing his return.

Dike ruptured his left achilles tendon in February – having suffered the same injury to his right leg in 2023 – and the USMNT international’s rehabilitation has been a lengthy process.

Corberan said: “Today is the first day he has made some drills with the team. It doesn’t mean training with the team – it means that maybe he can make 10 per cent of training.

“It is still going to be more than one month, five or six weeks probably, to finalise this process and to be in the last step which is available to be involved with the team.”

“With the number of months he has been out we need to go step-by-step, managing the situation, analysing everything we do, not rush because there is no need.”

As Dike eventually approaches his return to the first-team fold at The Hawthorns, the onus will be on Corberan to ensure that the US striker is fit and ready to play when he does get back on the pitch.

In the meantime, Corberan is hardly struggling for options up front in Dike’s absence, despite worries that the Baggies would be short of goals in the wake of Brandon Thomas-Asante’s departure.

Josh Maja has stepped up to the plate and then some, firing home an opening-day hat-trick against QPR and currently leading the Championship scoring charts with six goals for the Albion.

The unbeaten Baggies have had Maja to thank for sealing points in three of their six matches so far, with goals against Stoke City and Portsmouth adding to his treble at Loftus Road.

With Devante Cole waiting in the wings and Karlan Grant also excelling, the cover has been secured, but it will be amazing to finally see Dike get back on the pitch, nobody deserves it more.
