EFL issue alert to West Brom after Championship cyber-attacks
The EFL have delivered a warning to West Brom and fellow Championship clubs after a series of cyber-attacks have recently taken place, according to the Daily Mail.
On page 70 of the newspaper edition from 26 September, Mike Keegan reported that an alert has been issued around the EFL following recent breaches at several clubs.
It is understood Bristol City and Sheffield Wednesday of the Championship have recently been breached, along with Charlton Athletic from League One.
Some of the league’s “biggest” clubs are prime targets of hackers, who are looking to compromise data of customers and season ticket holders such as passwords and other information.
The Baggies’ exposure is rising as they top the EFL’s three divisions in a bid to return to the Premier League.
West Brom vigilant over cyber-attacks
Due to the large nature of West Brom and The Hawthorns, the Baggies are a club at particular risk from hackers looking to compromise data for organised crime networks to operate scams and target the public.
Leeds United, another appealing target for cyber-attackers, are said to be leading the charge in adding extra security to prevent hackers carrying out online breaches.
Albion boast over 18,000 season ticket holders, whose data it is the club’s responsibility to protect when they have invested their money into the club through online platforms such as the official website and ticketing pages.

Add to that those who attend The Hawthorns on a more sporadic basis and purchase away tickets, and there are thousands of supporters whose information must be kept secure.
Premier League clubs have also been on red alert, with West Midlands neighbours Aston Villa recently launching a cyber investigation but finding no unauthorised system access.
