Alex Mowatt fitness test update emerges at West Brom ahead of clash v Sheffield Wednesday

Alex Mowatt will undergo a “late fitness test” ahead of the clash between West Brom and Sheffield Wednesday, according to DOOD.

The Baggies news source reported via X on Friday (27 September) that the Albion midfielder will undertake a last-minute test before the Baggies face Wednesday at Hillsborough on Saturday (28 September).

Mowatt is understood to have trained with Carlos Corberan’s side on Friday and the expectation is that he will be ready to feature against Danny Rohl’s Owls on Saturday afternoon.

Corberan had confirmed that the 29-year-old was suffering from some pain in his adductor following the Baggies’ win over Plymouth Argyle last time out, which had limited his involvement in training this week [Express & Star, 27 September].

Is West Brom star Alex Mowatt injured at The Hawthorns?

Although the Baggies appear to have plenty of depth in the middle of the park at this moment in time, it would be a massive boost to Corberan’s side if Mowatt was fit and available to feature against Wednesday on Saturday.

The 29-year-old has been in excellent form for West Brom so far this term and played a crucial role in Albion’s unbeaten start to the season, particularly with his two goals in the win over Portsmouth at Fratton Park.

Hopefully, Mowatt will come through his last-minute fitness test with no concerns and be able to continue alongside Uros Racic in the middle of the park from the off after the Serbian’s impressive full debut last time out.

If the Englishman’s adductor issue is worse than initially feared, Corberan at least has the option of turning to either Ousmane Diakite or Jayson Molumby who appears set to return to the fold having missed the win over Plymouth.

Hopefully, a concrete update will emerge around Mowatt’s fitness before team news lands late on Saturday morning.
