Carlos Corberan makes Alex Mowatt call – West Brom confirmed XI v Sheffield Wednesday

Carlos Corberan has made one change to his West Brom starting XI for the clash with Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday 28 September.

The Baggies boss has dropped Alex Mowatt to the bench for Saturday afternoon’s showdown at Hillsborough with Ousmane Diakite coming into the starting XI for his first Championship start this season.

Mowatt had been an injury doubt in the lead-up to the game, with reports suggesting the midfielder was set to undergo a last-minute fitness test before it was decided whether or not he could feature against the Owls [DOOD, 27 September].

Jayson Molumby has also recovered from injury to take his place on the substitutes bench.

Can West Brom win promotion to the Premier League under Carlos Corberan?

Corberan’s attitude so far this term has been if it isn’t broke, don’t try to fix it. So far this season, it has served the Baggies well as they are currently sitting pretty at the top of the Championship table.

But the long league campaign is always going to take its toll on players and injuries are only going to become more commonplace as the season wears on. Changes will have to be made and tactical plans will have to be altered.

The most important thing for the Baggies is that they keep this winning run going at Hillsborough on Saturday. The Owls haven’t started the season in electric form and if Albion really want to win promotion this term, these are the games they simply have to win.

Of course, there isn’t such thing as an easy game in the Championship so West Brom will have to be at the races to claim all three points, but they do have more than enough quality to come away from this one unscathed.

Hopefully, the side that Corberan has selected will manage to get the job done.
