Kyle Bartley has Sky Sports studio in fits of laughter after what he said about West Brom

Kyle Bartley sent the Sky Sports studio into a fit of laughter with his comments on his West Brom playing time last season.

The Baggies had enjoyed an unbeaten start in the Championship this term heading into the 3-2 loss against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough on Saturday [28 September].

Bartley appeared on Sky Sports live from Hillsborough [28 September] ahead of the match and was quizzed by David Prutton on the excellent start compared to last season.

“Yeah well I was on the bench last season so,” Bartley said, sending the Sky Sports studio into a fit of laughter.

“No all jokes aside, it is really important to get that confidence early doors and you know we’ve probably got a little bit of a target on our back now, being at the top.

“So we’ve got to remain humble, we’ve got to keep working hard and keep doing what we’ve been doing.”

West Brom still flying in the Championship despite loss

While the West Brom captain had to wait until the end of September for his first start last season, he has started every match under Carlos Corberan this year.

The Baggies held the best defensive record in the league before the loss, with only two goals conceded in their opening six matches, and have kept four clean sheets.

All the attention has been on the excellent form of Josh Maja and Tom Fellows, who linked up for one of the consolation goals however, the defence deserves their plaudits for carrying Albion to the Championship summit.

Corberan will rightfully be disappointed with the defeat, Sheffield Wednesday’s three goals are higher than the amount the Baggies have conceded all season and despite pulling level in the final 10 minutes, never looked likely to win.

The starting absence of midfield duo Alex Mowatt and Jayson Molumby certainly affected the Baggies with Mohamed Diakite and Uros Racic struggling to win the midfield battle. Mowatt proved his worth with what proved to be a consolation goal and the tie was still all to play for.

West Brom’s unbeaten record was never going to last all season and there will be plenty more setbacks along the way, Corberan must lick his wounds and move on quickly with the side still well-positioned in the Championship.
