Darren Bent makes new West Brom promotion admission after loss v Sheffield Wednesday

Darren Bent admits he expects West Brom to be “there or there about” in the promotion race, despite their defeat to Sheffield Wednesday.

The Baggies picked up their first Championship defeat of the season on Saturday (28 September) as they were beaten 3-2 by the Owls at Hillsborough despite second-half goals from Josh Maja and Alex Mowatt.

Despite the loss Albion still sit top of the Championship one point ahead of second-placed Sunderland and talkSPORT pundit Bent expects them to remain in the race for promotion to the Premier League.

Speaking on talkSPORT on YouTube (30 September, 16:37) he said: “Burnley were my favourites, I thought they’d walk it.

“But they’re having a bit of a struggle to be fair. I know they’re only two points off of the top but West Brom will be there or there about and with Carlos Corberan, you cannot back against them.”

Will West Brom and Carlos Corberan win promotion to the Premier League at The Hawthorns?

It will be easy for Baggies fans to be left feeling a bit deflated after a tough afternoon at Hillsborough for a number of reasons, but one defeat will not dictate how the remainder of the season will play out at The Hawthorns.

Even when they were off of the pace against the Owls, Albion managed to carry an attacking threat and while they did come away empty-handed, they produced a few moments of quality that could have changed the course of the game on another day.

While Corberan is at the wheel, West Brom have an excellent chance of winning promotion this term.

They will have to be more defensively solid than they were at Hillsborough, but they have shown they’re capable of that earlier this season.

Hopefully, Corberan and his side will get back to winning ways against Middlesbrough on Tuesday (31 September) before heading into the international break with another three points against Millwall on Saturday.

In other West Brom news, concerns have been mooted about Corberan potentially leaving The Hawthorns for Everton this season
