Carlos Corberan shares Grady Diangana injury update ahead of West Brom v Millwall
West Brom star Grady Diangana is a doubt to face Millwall on Saturday (5 October) with a shoulder problem, Carlos Corberan has said.
Speaking after his side’s 1-0 loss to Middlesbrough on Tuesday (1 October), Corberan confirmed that Diangana’s bad luck this season has continued, with a new shoulder issue flaring up.
Diangana’s five appearances for the Baggies so far this season have all come off the bench, with the DR Congolese international suffering calf and shoulder problems.
In quotes relayed by WBA Report on X [1 October], Corberan said: “Unfortunately in the beginning he had the problem with the calf, then one shoulder and now the other one.
“It looks like it is less serious than the serious one, but he is still a doubt for Saturday.
“The fact he didn’t make pre-season, and after he has come back and suffered a couple of injuries means he hasn’t been ready to help the team in the level we want him to.
“We know he’s an important player – we need everyone fit and in the best level.”
West Brom need Grady Diangana fit and firing in promotion push
The Baggies’ 1-0 loss to Middlesbrough was their second defeat in a row, resulting in Corberan’s side surrendering top spot in the Championship after they misfired in front of goal.
While Tom Fellows has made the right-wing spot his own in a sensational campaign so far for the Albion youngster, competition is high for other places in the attack.
Mikey Johnston, signed permanently this summer, is yet to find his way into Corberan’s starting XI due to Karlan Grant’s form out wide, and the path back to the first team will be even more difficult for Diangana.
The 26-year-old’s injury worries, like those of striker Daryl Dike, mean it could take some time for him to get back up to full speed, as the Baggies look to mount a charge for the automatic promotion places.
That charge suffered a blow in a tepid display against Boro, and if Albion want to break down the most rigid sides in the league, they’ll need Grant, Johnston and Diangana to each be firing on all cylinders.
In other West Brom news, one Baggies star’s strong form so far this season has seen him win a maiden international call-up.
