West Brom fans don’t hold back after ‘dreadful’ loss v Middlesbrough
West Brom suffering their second loss in as many games at the hands of Middlesbrough on Tuesday (1 October) has left many fans fuming with Carlos Corberan’s side.
The Baggies never seemed to get out of second gear until it was too late in a lacklustre display on home soil, with Hayden Hackney’s second-half strike condemning Albion to a 1-0 defeat.
It would have been more for Boro if not for several saves from goalkeeper Alex Palmer, with Jed Wallace and Josh Maja’s chances in either half going astray as Albion surrendered top spot in the Championship.
West Brom fans slam ‘shocking’ Baggies after Middlesbrough loss
It was a performance in which Albion were too far off the pace to really test Boro until it was too late, and one fan reflected this sentiment upon Hackney’s goal, saying the hosts had “asked for it”.
Another was of a similar mind, calling the Baggies’ performance “shocking” and saying that Corberan’s side were getting what they deserve – “absolutely nothing”.
The full-time whistle brought further anger, with a fan calling the hosts’ showing “dreadful” and telling Albion to “sort it out fast”.
Having fallen from their place at the Championship’s summit following back-to-back defeats, leading one fan to ask if the new trajectory at The Hawthorns is “downhill from here?”
Further opinions also felt that the Baggies’ chances of getting back to the Premier League were starting to turn, with one saying “there goes the bubble” and another adding “there goes promotion”.
In the heat of the moment, tempers often flare, but some Albion fans were less disappointed and acknowledged that the defeat came at what is still a very early stage of the season.
One said that Albion would have taken 16 points from their first eight games “straight away”, saying that fans “need to be realistic” and adding how much Corberan had overachieved with his side.
