Kyle Bartley ‘bizarre’ incident baffles BBC WM in West Brom v Millwall
Steven Hermon and Daz Hale were baffled after Kyle Bartley missed a clear chance to score as West Brom drew 0-0 with Millwall on Saturday (5 October).
The two sides played out a goalless draw at The Hawthorns despite a plethora of chances being created, and the Baggies defender will be wondering how the back of the net did not bulge.
With Bartley’s effort not even being recorded as a shot, as per FotMob, only he will be able to explain what happened as he rose highest to clear his own team’s attacking phase of play.
Speaking live via BBC Radio WM on Saturday (5 October, 4:07pm), Hermon said: “Kyle Bartley gets himself into a great position, but for some reason, somehow, he’s headed it away from goal.”
Suggesting what could have happened, Hale said: “I’m wondering whether the sun has gotten in his eyes. The ‘keeper is shielding his eyes with his gloves at the moment, so the only explanation could be that he lost the ball in the sun.
Hermon finally added: “Bizarre.”
West Brom play out stalemate with Millwall at The Hawthorns
After back-to-back defeats to Sheffield Wednesday and Middlesbrough, Carlos Corberan will just be glad to finally have another point on the board after three games.
The Baggies were sitting at the top of the Championship table after the first six matches, only dropping points in a 0-0 draw against Leeds United, but they have since slipped into the play-off spots.
With Sunderland and Leeds dropping points against each other on Friday 4 October, Corberan will have hoped his side could have sealed all three points against the Lions, but it was not to be.

Of course, stopping the rot of two consecutive losses will have been seen as just as key as a win, especially heading into the international break, but the Baggies can use this time to reset.
There are still 37 matches of the Championship campaign remaining so it is important for fans not to get too far ahead of themselves, but there seems to be a lot of positivity around potential promotion to the Premier League this term.
In other West Brom news, Tom Fellows was dubbed “terrific” as Daz Hale was wowed by what the star did v Millwall.
