West Brom fans baffled by what Carlos Corberan did to Devante Cole v Millwall – ‘Honking’
West Brom fans have been left baffled by Carlos Corberan’s decision not to name Devante Cole in the matchday squad against Millwall.
The Baggies extended their winless run in the Championship to three consecutive matches as they drew 0-0 with Neil Harris’ side on Saturday (5 October) despite dominating possession and having 13 shots on goal.
Albion’s draw sees them head into the October international break sat fourth in the Championship after nine matches, despite being unbeaten in their first six games of the campaign.
Josh Maja was once again picked to lead the line at The Hawthorns after an excellent start to the season which has seen him top the Championship goalscoring charts having found the net on seven occasions already this term.
What has happened to West Brom forward Devante Cole at The Hawthorns?
But the Nigerian forward was kept quiet for the majority of the game before he was replaced by Karlan Grant in stoppage time and some Baggies fans were confused as to why Corberan opted to play various wingers out of position rather than include Cole in the matchday squad.
One supporter said: “Love Corberan but what he can see in Dobbin idk. Devante Cole must be proper honking to not even get on the bench over him” while another wrote: “Baffles me that Devante Cole isn’t being used from the bench in games like this”.
The initial signs suggest that Corberan isn’t exactly Cole’s biggest fan. The decision to sign the forward this summer raised a few eyebrows in and around The Hawthorns as he didn’t seem like the perfect replacement for Brandon Thomas-Asante.
While there is still plenty of football to be played this season, it would certainly be a surprise if the 29-year-old becomes a regular fixture of the Baggies’ starting XI having only played 14 minutes of league football so far this term.
The fact that he is not even making the matchday squad while the likes of Lewis Dobbin and Grant continue to feature out of position suggests he will be little more than a rotation option.
