West Brom expected final Championship position predicted by supercomputer
West Brom are still expected to finish in the Championship promotion places this season after the 0-0 draw against Millwall, according to the Opta Analyst supercomputer.
The Baggies head into the international break in fourth place, two points behind joint-leaders Sunderland and Sheffield United after the stalemate at The Hawthorns on Saturday [5 October].
Before the Championship opener in August, the supercomputer predicted West Brom to finish in fourth with a 53.2 per cent chance of placing in the play-off spots.
Now, Albion’s predicted finish remains fourth place after the latest round of Championship fixtures, but they now have a higher projected chance of automatic promotion at 21.5 per cent.
West Brom well in Premier League promotion hunt
The Baggies were once considered favourites for the Championship title according to the supercomputer, after the 3-0 win against Swansea City, but have suffered a fall in the final predictions after a barren run of form.
Carlos Corberan has seen his side fall from the top spot in the league down to fourth after two losses and one draw in his side’s last three Championship outings.
The 3-2 loss to Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough in which Anthony Musaba secured victory for the hosts in the final five minutes, only two minutes after Alex Mowatt’s strike looked to have salvaged a draw for the Baggies, has sparked a recent downturn in fortunes.

With an away trip to Oxford United awaiting upon the commencement of club football after the international break, West Brom should return to winning ways in the league. However, the performances of late have left a lot to be desired.
The Championship is one of the most unpredictable leagues in football and, given the Baggies’ dominant league performances before the loss at Hillsborough, this is one of many setbacks the side will face on their quest for Premier League promotion this season.
