Mo Faal rubs salt in Wolves wounds with first Wrexham goal since West Brom exit

Mo Faal added insult to injury for Wolves Under-21s by scoring his first Wrexham goal since leaving West Brom in a commanding 3-0 win in the EFL Trophy.

The 21-year-old left The Hawthorns on deadline day and scored his first goal against his former Black Country rivals at the Racecourse on Tuesday (8 October).

Faal was deemed surplus to requirements by Carlos Corberan this summer but his goal in the EFL Trophy to make it 3-0 will bring smiles to the faces of his previous club’s supporters.

Mo Faal up and running for Wrexham with goal v Wolves

There will certainly be no hard feelings between West Brom and Faal after his summer departure, with Baggies fans surely delighted with their former player’s success at the expense of rivals Wolves.

With the Baggies plying their trade in the second tier and West Midlands rivals Aston Villa and Wolves in the Premier League, there are few opportunities for Albion to get one over their most fierce rivals, and they will therefore take any small victory that comes their way.

Faal failed to impress Corberan throughout pre-season, following the goalscoring exploits of Josh Maja, and a return to the side for Daryl Dike in the near distant future meant an end to his five-year stint with the club felt inevitable.

The forward has seemingly found his level in the lower echelons of the football pyramid, as his new side fights for successive promotions to the second tier. Albion, meanwhile, have bigger sights set on a return to the Premier League.

West Brom are well on track to challenging for promotion despite a recent downturn in form and, if their return to the top-flight is secured, Corberan can focus on getting his own over his Black Country rivals on the biggest stage.
