Mason Holgate damages West Brom chances after what he did for Jamaica
Mason Holgate has damaged his chances of regular minutes at West Brom after a disappointing performance for Jamaica in their 0-0 draw with Honduras on Tuesday 15 October.
The Everton loanee has spent the international break making his first two appearances for the Reggae Boyz after changing allegiances from England.
This has been done in an attempt to show his qualities on the international stage after a quiet start to the campaign since returning to The Hawthorns over the summer.
And after his showings so far under Steve McClaren, it is safe to say that Carlos Corberan won’t be rushing to include the 27-year-old in his starting XI any time soon.
Mason Holgate damages West Brom hopes after Jamaica showing
The ex-Southampton defender started his first game for his country on 15 October and was able to keep a clean sheet.
This was positive although the quality of the opposition wasn’t too strong, coming up against the 77th-ranked nation in the FIFA rankings.
With that being said, Holgate didn’t stand out in any particular fashion alongside Brentford star Ethan Pinnock at the heart of defence.
The Baggies loan ace did accumulate 83 touches throughout the clash in Kingston, Jamaica and utilised that to complete 58 passes but Corberan will be disappointed with a 78 per cent competition rate and a 23 per cent long ball accuracy [FotMob].
The Everton academy product was also quiet defensively as he failed to win a tackle while making four clearances and one interception.
Considering that Holgate has to return to The Hawthorns and compete with the likes of Torbjoern Heggem, who has spent the break with Erling Haaland and Norway, there is still a lot to be desired about the summer signing.
In other West Brom news, one star would welcome a transfer to The Hawthorns as another Championship club has run away scared.
